Educational qualifications
Dr. Barbara Hill possesses undergraduate qualifications in Arts from the Australian National University in Canberra, a Masters Degree in Literary Studies from Deakin University in Geelong Victoria and a Doctor of Philosophy in Arts from the University of New South Wales. Her interest in Indigenous education began at Wammarra, Charles Sturt University (CSU) in the 1991. From 1991 to 2004 she has held various positions addressing the academic support and learning skills needs of Indigenous Students studying through CSU. Since 1993 she has also been a sessional academic at CSU lecturing and coordinating subjects in English literature, Australian literature, Existential literature, Creative Writing, Sociology and Professional Writing both in The School of Teacher Education and The School of Social Science and Liberal Studies . From 2006 Dr. Hill has been a sessional academic lecturing and teaching in The School of Social Science and Liberal Studies at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst
Research and scholarly interests
Dr. Hill’s research interest is in the teaching of diverse learners and she has developed curriculum in enabling, distance education and preparatory training courses at CSU. Her specialty and interest is in the support of Indigenous students at the tertiary level and the inclusion of Cultural Competence Frameworks within a University-wide setting. Barbara’s other areas of research interests include Australian women authors; particularly the work of Dorothy Hewitt, Thea Astley and the work of Australian poet Kate Llewellyn. She also writes fiction and is currently working on her fourth novel.
